Requires large groups of people to operate machinery, deploy chemicals and to clean up after deploying abrasives

Requires less staff to maintain, usually a team of less than 6 peopele

These methods are reactive and cant be utilized 24/7, as vehicles need to refuel and staff needs to rest 

The system can run 24/7, the staff can rest without system shutdown

Fluctuations in temperature can melt the snow into water, which then freezes into ice and black ice

The system is active 24/7, so as soon as snow lands on the runway, it will melt. Which prevents ice from forming in the first place, as the runways temperature does not fall below 0c

The up keep cost of machinery, fuels, chemicals and staff is  really high

While the system is more expensive to set up, the up keep cost is much lower. Therefore is the long term, the Geothermal solution is more economically beneficial 

Higher operation cost during snow season, but no benefits for the rest of the year

Since the geothermal system is active all year, during cold season, the energy can be used to heat up the buildings. Further more, the extracted energy can be used to light up buildings during warmer seasons
